World Vision Concert | Chinese American Citizens Alliance Los Angeles Lodge Youth Council Hello, and welcome to the website of the CACAYC, a council that has and will continue to service members of the youth in our communities, educate the youth on issues affecting them today, and promote and support efforts by the Asian community. Updates/ScheduleJune 8, 2008 Vice President of Administration: Ryan Liu Attendees: Ryan Liu, Joshua Ji, Tina Zhu, Joseph Tsai, Lori, Kevin Jiang (new), Melody Gu (new) This meeting was held at the Mandarin Baptist Church of San Fernando Valley at 2:15 pm. 9 people, including Winston and Ms.Mei, showed up. Winston first talked to us about some scholarship opportunities for seniors. Then, Tina presented our total money raised from all of our efforts: we have $9814 from our concert, plus $42.26 raised by Lori from her history class, and three checks from Winston totaling $400. With all this money, we have over $10,000. Next Saturday, Kevin, Tina, and Lori will be presenting a big check to CCHC. Winston talked about community service hours. If any members want to receive hours, they must talk to him and present him with a service form. Elections for next year’s officers will be next meeting. Tina will send us available positions. We should all email Winston what we might want to run for. Winston also stated that only those who are active members in meetings and projects to date can vote. For the July election meeting, brand new members after the June 8th meeting can't vote. Next, we discussed some project ideas. Winston told us that another branch is hosting a career day in August in Monterey Park. This will be a great opportunity for teens wishing to find out more about any jobs or professions. We also need to plan another Jewish home performance because of popular demands by some seniors at the Jewish home. Because of our overwhelming success last time, they want us back. Further discussions will take place next meeting. The meeting was adjourned at 3:30 pm. Lawrence and Ryan’s mom made several suggestions and alterations, which Tina will change and send to all the participants to practice at home. The meeting was adjourned at 3:30 pm. Winston then told us about some scholarships, one of which is an essay contest next Saturday. We discussed Jeanie’s URM project. We decided to either perform music or serve food, or a combination. We talked about college visiting. We could join other chapters’ college visits this summer. Tina proposed another project: gathering up people’s AP and SAT books, and selling them, charging a small profit for ourselves. She will be project leader for this project. The meeting was adjourned at 3:30 pm. January 6, 2008 Attendees: Ryan Liu, Lawrence Gu, Lori Li, Josh Ji, Jeanie Chen, Winston Wu This meeting was held at the Mandarin Baptist Church of San Fernando Valley at 2:10 pm. Jeanie then told us about a union rescue mission in downtown LA, where we can go volunteer to help the needy. A suggestion came up that we go with East/West San Gabriel Branch members. Winston suggested we can volunteer at the Northridge Hospital by playing with little kids or getting them toys (Northridge Hospital donated $1000 to World Vision Concert). Lawrence suggested we return to the Jewish Center after last time’s successful performance there. A date has not been set, but Lawrence suggested around CM (Certificate of Merit). Winston talked to us about his workshop on college scholarships and finances. He then showed us the top high schools and universities in the nation, followed by a reiteration of the purpose of our youth council. We ended the meeting afterwards. The meeting was adjourned at 3:03 pm. November 3, 2007 For more information about our World Vision concert, feel free to look through the concert informational brochure/flyer. Angie October 28, 2007 We met at the Mandarin Baptist Church at 2:00 PM and talked about Lawrence's Jewish Home performance. Then, tickets/flyers/posters were distributed with ten tickets per person. Tina is in charge of money collection and is keeping a record of checks. Then, we did skit ticket-selling and Mrs. Gu, Lawrence, and Mrs. Tsai gave us some tips on doing so: They've won international and state competitionsThere are a variety of instrumentalists there, such as violinists, pianists, and choir singers. A great program has been assembled, and there is such a great variety available. The MTAC (Music Teachers Association of California) 10 dollars is a donation to a wonderful cause, and it's such a great deal. World Vision is a Christian organization benefiting This is not for profit. We are co-operation with World Vision. CACAYC is a good organization (depending upon audience) The price is very reasonable because we are offering up international/state-wide winners of competitions. The performers are not gaining profit either. If you make checks payable to World Vision, the money is tax-deductible. After, we figured out who would perform at the Jewish home so far: Bach Prelude and Fugue #21Beethoven Piano Sonata #21 ("Waldstein") -Howard Chen (16) Liu Yang River Bach Toccata BWV 913 Allegro -Lawrence Gu (10) E-mail over if you're performing. Then, we talked about Tina's dance proposal and agreed that if we didn't have to publicize, we would be willing to set up/clean up at the dance. It was decided it should be a joint thing with Key Club and Interact. We adjourned at about 4:15 PM September 9, 2007 - Vice President of Administration: Ryan Liu This meeting was held at the Mandarin Baptist Church of San Fernando Valley at 2:00 pm. Ten people showed up altogether. Winston also came after about half an hour. We began the meeting discussing Plan C, or the plan Joseph came up with. This plan called for a youth talent show that will raise money for World Vision. We discussed various aspects of this project, and decided that everyone will sell at least ten tickets. Everyone will be assigned certain jobs. DVDs will be made from our rehearsal. Howard’s dad will make the DVDs, Josh will film. DVD prices will be ten dollars each. Lawrence will be the MC for our program. Jeff Lee from World Vision will also speak at our program. As for advertising, we decided upon giving out and sticking fliers everywhere to get the word out. Next we discussed Lawrence’s presentation and slideshow about college entrance, and life after college. We decided that we would try to get two schools where Lawrence can make his presentation. We could also use libraries, although some such as the Mid Valley Branch charges to use their meeting rooms. After this discussion, we talked about colleges and everyone chatted. The meeting was adjourned at 3:08 pm. July 15, 2007 - President of SFV: Lawrence Gu The second meeting for the SFV YC was held at the Mandarin Baptist Church starting 2:30PM. We have two new members who are Andrew Fang and Sam Xu. Angie showed a rough draft of the new website layout for the SFV Chapter. Afterwards, Lawrence handed out résumés out for everyone to fill out to better assist finding a direction during high school. Those who are interested in college counseling may then forward the chart/resume to Lawrence, who is a peer college counselor at his school. Finally, we discussed the upcoming Youth Talent Show projects. Joseph Tsai and Howard Chen are co-chairs of the Talent Show project. Our first choice for location is the Mandarin Baptist Church, which we may get for free, or in the other case, we would book the Brand Library, which costs $110 for a Glendale resident (Angie). We decided our theme to be some play on the wording of “East meets west.” We are also planning other events in between the performance such as raffle, refreshments, a speech, and others. Our main goals are to showcase the community youth’s talent and membership recruitment and outreach. The meeting was adjourned at 5:15 PM. June 2, 2007 - Vice President of Administration: Ryan Liu Our first meeting as the San Fernando Valley branch was a great success. The meeting took place at around 4:00 pm. Parents and members were informed of the youth council, and Wilson spoke about numerous scholarships or government grants. After this, the parents and members broke up into two groups. The parents went to chat and the members, led by Lawrence Gu, discussed the officer positions and different projects of the youth council. President: Lawrence Gu VP/Editor-in-Chief: Joshua Ji VP Special Projects: Howard Chen VP Technology: Angie Wang VP Programs: Chris Carson VP of PR: Joseph Tsai VP Membership: Yongle Zhao VP Finance: Tina Zhu VP Administration: Ryan Liu.
